Effects at NAV

One way we measure the effect of NAIS in NAV is by measuring our deployment frequency across all the applications. NAIS was introduced to NAV in 2017, and has continuously worked to improve “speed and flow” for teams, while helping teams make safe and robust applications.

The bar chart shows how average weekly deploys to production in NAV has dramatically increased, from around in 2015 to more than 1400 in 2022. The most dramatic change happened when we went from 150 deploys in 2018 to 1200 deploys in 2020.
Deployment frequency is one of the key metrics identified in the book Accelerate: The Science of Lean Software and Devops: Building and Scaling High Performing Technology Organizations (2018) by Dr. Nicole Forsgren, Jez Humble and Gene Kim. We find that it serves as a useful proxy metric for our teams agility and ability to effect change.
